When watching weather reports on television, the reporter will
often forecast two or more distinct weather fronts that are expected
to merge into one enormous storm.
Likewise, two highly visible fronts are about to merge into a huge storm
that could break directly over the heads of those Canadian Permanent
Residents and their families who have lived or worked in the
United Arab Emirates or Kuwait.
Have
you taken the necessary steps to ensure you and your family will
be properly protected when these two fronts converge? If
not, the heavy winds and rains that will surely fall may wash
away your entire family's plans and dreams.
If you are a Canadian Permanent Resident and have
not made preparations to weather this storm, you do not have much
time to shore up - never mind erect - your protective structure.
Indeed, you may have just over a year to put your plan into action
- not a long time when it comes to organizing your financial and
legal affairs! Failure to plan will result in the certain loss
of your prized permanent resident status in Canada and could also
mean substantial financial loss and even possible criminal tax
evasion sanctions by the end of next year.
These two storm fronts are of a legal nature and they are about
to impact your peaceful existence. The first is the introduction
of the new Canadian Permanent Resident Card ("PR Card").
The second, the recently signed tax treaties between Canada and
both the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait ("Tax Treaties").
The PR Card and Tax Treaties are both capable of affecting
your
immigration or tax status on their own.
Those of you who have landed in Canada but who continue to work
or live in the UAE or Kuwait (with or without your families) will
find your otherwise comfortable existence seriously compromised
by these two legal fronts when they are combined.
